Michael W. Davis
An active member of the Howard County legal community for nearly 30 years, Michael W. Davis represents individuals and families in all phases of estate planning, wealth management, probate and trust administration, asset protection, business succession, charitable giving, medical decision-making, and guardianship or fiduciary litigation matters.
A recognized leader in the complexities of estate planning and other issues of interest to the aging community, Mike served on the Howard County Commission on Aging for ten years, serving as Chair or Vice-Chair for most of that time. In addition, he currently serves on the on the Estates and Trust Law Section Council of the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) and served on the MSBA Elder Law Council from 1993 to 2006, serving as Chair in 2000, and was a founding member of the Maryland/D.C. Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
Active in community leadership positions, Mike is a Past-Chair of The Columbia Foundation and the current co-chair of its Leadership Council; he also serves as a Trustee on the Howard Community College Educational Foundation, and is a graduate of Leadership Maryland (Class of 2000). In 2003, Governor Robert Ehrlich, in recognition of Mike's position within the legal community, appointed him Chair of the Howard County Judicial Nominating Commission, a position he held until 2007.
Mike has recently received several prominent industry recognitions, including a 2010 Leadership In Law award from The Daily Record. This recognition is awarded annually to 24 attorneys who have made investments in bettering the legal profession, the communities in which they live and work, and mentoring future generations of professional and community leaders. For those lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement, Baltimore Magazine publishes an annual list of Super Lawyers. Mike was chosen for inclusion in this publication for 2011. In addition, SmartCEO Magazine conducts an annual Reader’s Poll and Mike was selected as one of Maryland’s 2010 Legal Elites.
Mike has also received a number of awards for his efforts on behalf of the community for which he works and in which he lives, including: the 2009 James W. Rouse Award from the Columbia Foundation, an Honorary Associate’s Degree in Arts from Howard Community College, the 2009 Award of Excellence from the Bar Foundation of Howard County, Maryland and the 2008 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Maryland/DC Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He has also been recognized by the Howard County Commission for Aging for his advocacy efforts and contributions on behalf of Howard County older adults as an active member of the Commission.
A frequent and sought-after lecturer on estate planning issues, Mike has been a featured speaker before many organizations, including the former Maryland Institute for the Continuing Legal Education for Lawyers. Mike has been awarded an "AV" rating by Martindale-Hubbell, a national peer review service, which indicates that he has reached the height of professional excellence and is recognized for the highest levels of skill and integrity. Mike is admitted to the Maryland Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for Maryland, as well as the United States Supreme Court.
