Emily P. Koning
About Emily
Emily brings a strong foundation in family law shaped by more than a decade of focused experience across Maryland’s courts and communities. Her practice is rooted in the belief that clients deserve to be treated as people, not case numbers, and that effective advocacy begins with listening, understanding, and honoring each client’s unique goals.
Emily graduated magna cum laude from Marshall University in 2010 and earned her J.D. cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2013. During law school, she gained early exposure to the complexities of family law through internships with the Honorable Kendra Y. Ausby in the Family Division of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City and with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender, Child in Need of Assistance Division. As a student attorney in the University’s Family Law Clinic, she represented clients in divorce, custody, and protective order matters. Emily also served as a member of the University of Baltimore Law Review, further strengthening her analytical and writing skills.
After graduation, Emily clerked for a Family Law Magistrate in Baltimore City, an experience that deepened her understanding of courtroom procedure and the nuances of family law litigation. Since completing her clerkship, she has practiced family law almost exclusively, representing clients across numerous Maryland jurisdictions.
Emily’s approach is grounded in the principle that every client’s situation is unique. She believes that individuals navigating family transitions should feel heard, respected, and fully informed. Her goal is to ensure clients understand the legal process, have the information they need to make decisions, and feel confident that their priorities, not someone else’s, are guiding the strategy. Emily recognizes that no two cases are alike, and she tailors her counsel to each client’s specific needs, goals, and circumstances.
Emily resides in Baltimore County with her husband and children. Outside of her practice, she enjoys home improvement projects and spending time with family and friends.
